Those "mobile laborers," as Huffsmith, senior vice president of vineyard operations for Trinchero Family Estates, called them, are doing the ever-more-vital manual jobs of spring suckering and shoot thinning.

    This is some of the most intimate and satisfying wine tasting I've done in years. I visited six tasting rooms and wasn't charged a cent to sample as many as 10 wines per winery.     Wilson, who was host of a Cajun-style cooking show on PBS for years, used to end his show by sitting down in front of whatever dish he had prepared and pour himself a big glass of red wine. Sometimes, the dish Wilson prepared would be of the fish variety and when that would happen, as he poured his glass of red wine he would say: “They say you’re supposed to drink white wine with fish.
