  • Golden Gate Biofuels donates B20 to wine auction

    The Napa Valley Wine Auction was the beneficiary of more than 1,700 gallons of B20 from Martinez, Calif.-based Golden Gate Petroleum. The fuel was used to run generators and support vehicles at the event, which took place June 1-4. The auction gave the fuel distributor an opportunity to speak with local grape growers and vineyard operators about biodiesel. “We hope it spurs more interest by grape growers in the Napa Valley to use biodiesel,” said Pat O’Keefe, the company’s vice president.

  • New Tannin Analysis at Vinquiry

    The Adams Tannin Assay is based on the work of UC Davis professor Dr. Douglas Adams, and WSU Extension Enologist James Harbertson. The assay analyzes certain functional classes of phenolic chemicals which directly impact winemaking decisions. The assay gives quantitative measurements for total tannin, total anthocyanins, total polymetric pigment, and total iron reactive phenolics. The Adams Tannin Assay measures astringency due to tannin. This makes it a valuable tool for winemakers trying to control and shape mouthfeel in their wines. The analysis can be used for end of fermentation extraction values and for pressing information in finished wines.
